Not my area, but can anyone offer any recommendations for a cheap washing machine.
All that's needed is a basic and reliable unit, for use by a single person with a budget of £250.
A quick look suggests it's a choice of Beko or Indesit.
TIA

One of these - a scrubbing board and a river
turn the Y fronts inside out once , halve the need for washing, wear the socks which appear to be odd due to the old washer eating one of each or go to the launderette and strip off once a fortnight, you get a week in the cells and then repeat from the beginning:cool:

Here's one I bought a couple of months ago - good reviews and has a quick wash (14 minutes) very happy with it so far.

At least one sensible person around here.
That's exactly the kind of reply I was hoping for.
Spot on the money and seems decent value.Move along, nothing to see.0 -

Both those brands and others like Candy would not be my choice, they pump up the headline numbers without the hardware to match.. any machine can be made to spin faster or quote a higher load capacity but both these things will just hasten the (cheaply made) drum bearings to an ever quicker death. Don't get too excited about good reviews, most people leave them when its new and working nicely. Not a couple of years time when the thing is stuck on the end of the drive waiting for the scrap man to pass by.
I would stump up an extra £29 for a basic Bosch £279 from John Lewis delivered free with 2 years warranty.

I take your point.
But it's always the same argument, whether pc or washing machine, for only £xx more you get a better machine.
The budget in this case is £250, there is no extra £29 available.Move along, nothing to see.0 -

Fair enough, I am always one for trying to stick to budget.
In which case a Zanussi is as good (or bad) as any of them and again John Lewis have 2 years warranty instead of 1 you get elsewhere so you at least have a fighting chance!
£225 delivered.

my cheap and cheerful LG 2 year warranty, was about £300 and better than my ex zanussi
My miele cost loads more, but has not broke down since bought is about 20 years ago0 -
From what I've seen and heard in the last year or so, Beko appliances do tend to burst into flames. Many instances of this have been reported (Google Beko Fire).
I've got an Indesit washing machine, which is now about five years old and so far has been trouble free (expect problems now)!"There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0
