My OH was the only person he knew who returned having not had a single issue with D&V. Though back home he's just been laid out with a D&V virus for four days! He does swear by the hand sanitiser stuff, and I found some hideously fruity smelling ones to send out - anything that gets a giggle.

I've been sending parcels for years, only ever had a response from 1 person, out of the numerous boxes I sent. I know it's for a good cause.

I send my friends parcels too, they enjoy the quirky things sent out.

you will be fine as long as it was under 2 kg, and its surprising how easy it is to write to someone you dont know, i did it and was just glad i was able to bring some home comfort to our people out there.
