Postage to Soldiers

I wanted to ask here first as the post office I go to is small and tends to have .... issues with anything out of the ordinary!
I have some of the bluey forms and know that they are free to post but does anyone know how much it costs to send a shoebox sized box under 2kg to Afghanistan?
I "adopted" a soldier and am putting together a first parcel for him!
Also the box I have is shiny and red (a Christmas type box that I found cheap!) so would it be best to wrap it in brown paper?
Thank you!

Usually postage to Herrick is free at this time of year, if parcel is 2k or below. Look at the BFPO website for what you can and can't send through the post.Proud to have dealt with our debtsStarting debt 2005 £65.7K.

If it is going to Afghan it is free if it is UNDER 2Kg. I would recommend the brown paper as the mail does go through it a bit especially if it is going to a forward location.
Make sure the BFPO number is on there as that will show that it is an OP HERRICK one and therefore free.0 -
Thank you!
I will wrap the box up well! It will probably be more sticky tape than box .... It is almost sorted and it is safely under 2kg so I will have to see what the post office say when I take it.
I just have to write some sort of letter to go with it - bit weird writing to someone I know nothing about!0 -

:jNot sure it would be in your best interests! I do ramble a lot and have probably have the same hobbies as a 70 year old ..... I kind of pity my soldier for getting matched with me.

Dont worry, I had some of the random boxes and letters while I was on H17. They are all appreciated and the letters provide a bit of a distraction and some 'normal' amongst what passes for normal on ops.0 -

I hope they will be a bit of a distraction - just trying to figure out what to write about!0 -

I've been 'adopting' squaddies for the past 4 years now, am part of a parcel sending group that sends goodie boxes out to the lads/ lasses on deployment
Please make sure that you post your parcel before the 29th of November, there is already a backlog of mail over in Bastion at the moment, parcels are starting to take a lot longer to reach them"I live my dream today, I lived it yesterday and I'll be living yours tomorrow":smileyhea
