Hi I bought one of the cheap talk talk routers from ebuyer and i`m having a bit of trouble!I`ve got a dell laptop on vista and that connects to the network ok,however i`ve also got 2 desktops ,both on xp and although it shows that they are connected to the network and signal strength is good/very good,i can`t actually get on the net through them.I`ve tried connecting through internet explore and aol on both and can`t seem to do it.They both say an LAN cable is unplugged so obviously i need to change the settings somewhere....can someone point me in the right direction please?

Can you get internet access if the desktops are connected to the back of the router by means of an Ethernet cable?
When connecting PC's through a router you're better off not running the AOL software as this tends to take over the PC. Simply let the router make the connection and then connect the computers on local area network (LAN) basis.
If you are using wireless, then is your router encryption enabled and are the correct encryption keys entered into each of the PC's?0 -

Yes i can sign onto the net with the ethernet cable and i`ve checked that the emcryption keys match...what i have noticed is that the "online" light isn`t constantly lit on the router as i presume it should be.......Cledor,could you explain how to connect the computers on an LAN basis please.....thanks.A shadowy flight into the dangerous world of a man who does not exist.

In the connection settings, the computer's access to the internet should be via the LAN. Make sure they are not trying to use a dialup modem / ADSL USB modem/ ADSL PCI modem, or trying to log in to an AOL connection, the AOL Broadband login must only be performed from your router.
By the online light do you mean the one that shows connection to the ADSL line? It may sometimes flicker when exchanging data with the net.
If you are able to access the net from both PC's using the Ethernet lead then it must be the wireless adapter settings or the encryption (assuming you are already getting good wireless signal & connectivity on the 3rd computer). You can try it without the encryption to see if this resolves the connection problem.0 -
