New package for a new build

Hi
I'm set to move into a new build house tomorrow. :j
Currently there is no telephone line connected and I don't know what options I have for new phone and broadband. Do I have to get BT to connect up or are there more options? It clearly requires an engineer. If BT have to do the connection am I free to shop around for the best deals?
We just want broadband and a basic telephone line as we make calls via our mobiles generally. Any recommendations (assuming I'm not limited to BT) thanks!
