I used to have an allotment. Which came overgrown, and was given back overgrown 4 years later. I just didn't have the time, to spend, and no sooner had I spent 2 days digging and weeding one small section, and planting it with seeds, than the weeds had grown on the last patch I'd weeded. I managed to get about 1/4 of it cleared, before winter set in again, and then that end was under water from Novemeber to March.
I struggled on, limited in time, by erm Life,..wife, kids, and a job..and other hobbies. Eventually I admitted defeat. The guy that took it over was retired and worked 8 hour days on it 6 days a week with his wife, and by the end of the first 6 months it was perfect.
My point ? It's hard work. It's harder than you'll ever imagine.
My experience almost exactly! Sadly gave my plot up because of the reasons you state..

As you are a complete beginner, this is a good simple book which will help - https://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Vegetable-Herb-Expert-best-selling/dp/0903505460/ref=pd_sim_b_13

I still check things in my old, battered, slightly muddy copy.

Without offence, the plot you have is small, very small by most allotment society standards.
That said, it is to your benefit. It will be easily "tamed", and further control should be very manageable:T:T, excellant for a newbie.

There was a posy earlier about not rotovating?, I totally agree.

Everything needs cutting to the deck. Brush cutter or heavy duty strimmer will handle that given the size.

It should then be dug over by hand, and any root matter removed.
Double depth digging may be needed.

The you can rotavate, and to be honest apart from adding growmore or bone meal, I'd do nothing the ist year. I'd simply plant everything I wanted to grow and see what happened.
Some will thrive and prosper and some will be weak, others will fail.
The you can decide how best to modify the plot to suit what you are going to grow.
One last thing, it's best for a beginner to grow what wants to grow on your plot, check what the neighbours do, they will be your best allies, once you are accepted as not townies:D:D:D:D:D.

Please accept my apologies if I have repeated anything others have said, I haven't read all the later posts.;)
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed
