Keeping SIM card despite changing phones?
Sorry if this has been posted before - I'm totally illiterate when it comes to mobile phones and this may be a horribly stupid question to ask.
Can you take the PAYG SIM card from one model phone and put it straight into another model with no problems? I'm buying a new PAYG phone for my mother as her other one is really old and all the numbers have rubbed off but obviously want her to continue using the old SIM card.

You can only swap cards between phones if the new one is either unlocked completely, or locked to the network the SIM is for.0

I had a suspicion that was the case.

Thanks for your help.
If you know what phone you are buying then let us know and we can tell you if we can unlock it for free on here, that way you can get the cheapest possible deal as phone prices vary dependent on network but if we can unlock it then you can buy the cheapest one.0 -
On this same kind of topic, I got an O2 Genie sim card in approx 2001 and I've used it over several different phones since then.
If I change to a virgin network phone will I have to have it unlocked and as the phone will be new (nokia slider phone - not sure which one though) will my 6 year old sim card work ok in it?
Can I take my number over to virgin from O2 and is there a charge either provider make for this?
Any advice will be appreciated.I've been a player in the crowd scene, a flicker on the big screen; All this time I've tried, to walk with dignity and pride.

i take it the phone is the N95 slider, this can only be unlocked by the network the phone is locked to.
and yes, you will have to get the virgin phone unlocked if you want to use an o2 sim in it0
