When did you last go into a bank branch?

Instead of each bank having it's own premises, why can't we have multiple banks in one branch? They could all have their own computerised systems and staff, but there would be tremendous savings on all the other overheads. Then maybe they could afford to keep rural branches open. Or is that too sensible?0

I use Nationwide Building Socy. I had a bank account with Barclays closed years ago and have just received a cheque for 1p...yes 1p for I do not know what. I hope I don't get accused of money laundering when I pay it in!0

I was in last week, depositing a cheque.
Have also used the branch in the last year for
1) Depositing money
2) Foreign exchange
3) Taking out significant amounts of money to pay for wedding expenditure, car repairs etc
4) Change Name & Address
5) Close Accounts
If banks were open suitable hours and had a branch in my local town i would use it more oftenWeight loss challenge, lose 15lb in 6 weeks before Christmas.0 -
I don't need to go bank all time. I go only to deposit money in my account in more than 1 month once.0

Won't the results of this poll be flawed? I clicked on the answer link in the email (where there's no mention of age), my answer presumably accepted, but the poll answers onsite are separated into age categories.0

Probably to pay in my last cheque (how quaint) from AutoAid.If you fold it in half, will an Audi A4 fit in a Citroen C5?

We bank with Co-op and I haven't been in a branch since we opened the account over 3 years ago. However, we do use the Post Office to bank cheques and cash as that's easier for us.
I much prefer to use the Post Office but the way they are cutting their branches too, there won't be many ways to bank other than by internet/post.Mortgage free wannabeMortgage (November 2010) £135,850Mortgage (November 2020) £4,7840 -
I've been banking online with Nationwide for the best part of 20 years. But whenever I get paid by cheque (OK, that's not very often) I have to travel 10 miles to the nearest branch to pay it in. Usually into a machine, even then.
I know all the banks are using various strategies to kill off the use of cheques. But please, don't encourage them close more branches in rural areas like Norfolk. I don't want to have to take my cheque 40 miles to Norwich or Peterborough! (Or pay 50p for a stamp.)
The only alternative would be for me to open an extra current account with any one of the Big Four which has a branch in the local town (2 miles). What a horrid thought ...
The cost of the stamp is significantly less than you'd spend on fuel (unless you walk the 10 miles - I would as I'm a crazy bar steward but there aren't many like me about)
Why is opening an account with one of the big 4 such a horrible thought, just open a current account with no deposit requirement, no overdraft facility and online banking and when you need to pay in, pay into that, then as soon as you get home go online and transfer it to your main current account (I have an account with Natwest for this very purpose as they have a branch closer to me than the nearest Post Office or branch of any other bank)If you don't like what I say slap me around with a large trout and PM me to tell me why.
If you do like it please hit the thanks button.0 -
Over 3 years ago, no idea when actually.
Can do most things online but I want to close an (inactive) account, wish I could do that online. If I'm trusted to open accounts online, why am I not trusted to close one they've classified as inactive?!
I can pay in cheques at the post office, so I do them there. In the village, whereas branches are in town.0 -
In Llangollen, North Wales, HSBC is culling its branch just as it is elsewhere. They've offered to 'help' customers for whom this would cause difficulties (note: personal accounts ONLY) and my guess is they'll offer IBBAs to them custoers (maybe even free).
Does anyone here know what typical IBBA charges are? We have a NatWest and a Barclays here (pro tem?) to this will be of interest to many of our residents.
Also, what on Earth have retailers done in these circumstances - just moved their accounts? They can't use the Post Office, which is what HSBC is telling domestic customers to do.
I fear that rural economies are going to be hit particularly hard.0
