About ten years ago to take a large amount of cash out to pay a builder- I work for a bank!0
-
32, go into the bank more than once a week as a lot of customers pay me by cheque.2018 totals:
Savings £11,200
Mortgage Overpayments £5,5000 -
I only ever go in if I have a cheque, which is once in a blue moon.
Even when I'm inside, I pay the cheque in using the machine.
I haven't spoken to a bank worker in a branch for about 4 years, and that was only because they were an ex-colleagueEarly retired - 18th December 2014
If your dreams don't scare you, they're not big enough0 -
Usually every couple of weeks or so.
Do not bank on line and do not want to.0 -
I've just noticed that the headline question (and this thread) is different to the actual poll question0
-
The so called "tellers" or cashiers as they once were, are keen to SELL insurance and additional services, and don't give up easily in their quest to get a bigger bonus.
Consequently I use machines (not because I like them) but avoid being bombarded with sales gimmicks, which maybe I might have to reclaim compensation for. Isn't life so easy !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!0 -
I was thinking it would be interesting to see WHY people go into a branch... can you do a poll on this?Friendly greeting!0

Went into the branch once to pay in a cheque and the cashier said that I should use the machine. I said I would prefer to pay in person and she said that the bank was thinking of charging for counter services that could be done by machine. She was quite snotty. I pointed out that if everyone used the machine she would be out of a job, which in her case would be a bonus for customers still wishing to use the counter.0

I go in quite regularly to pay in cash/cheques but do it via an ATM (except occasionally when I'm paying in coins in my nearest branch - they don't have a Coinstar like ATM - though the bigger branch in town do)
Other than that, very rare, pretty much only when I need to open an account that isn't available online. I've spoken to a cashier in my local building society more times in the last 3 months than in Santander (my current account provider) in the last 3 years.
I'm 25-44 by the way.If you don't like what I say slap me around with a large trout and PM me to tell me why.
If you do like it please hit the thanks button.0 -
I've been banking online with Nationwide for the best part of 20 years. But whenever I get paid by cheque (OK, that's not very often) I have to travel 10 miles to the nearest branch to pay it in. Usually into a machine, even then.
I know all the banks are using various strategies to kill off the use of cheques. But please, don't encourage them close more branches in rural areas like Norfolk. I don't want to have to take my cheque 40 miles to Norwich or Peterborough! (Or pay 50p for a stamp.)
The only alternative would be for me to open an extra current account with any one of the Big Four which has a branch in the local town (2 miles). What a horrid thought ...0
