Are you actually in any hurry to get this work done?

It sounds like you've not really got the means to get this work done, which explains a lot of dithering and dathering. The builders know a time waster when they see one.

tbf the first post was only about 6 weeks ago. Not exactly dithering when you factor in xmas and the complexity of the issue.

I would love for you to explain your post there as i'm going to get off the fence & say that you're one of these finger pointers who have cropped up over the pages. You know the ones - the ones who have come out & said, why haven't you got someone out RIGHT NOW, i know it's Xmas day & it's dinner time but you should have someone there RIGHT NOW, not just looking at the work but STARTING the work & the fact you haven't means you're a timewaster.

    Or am i wrong?

Are you loitering in one of the cupboards when these people are round? Do you know what's being said? Have you heard a lot of indecisiveness when the builder has been being spoken to with which to base your post i quoted on??

Or are you just jumping on the bandwagon?

Still, i'd genuinely love for you to explain your post.

For the record though, when these people have come out we have been very to the point. This needs doing & we want to know what you think about it, what you plan on doing about it & how much it'd cost as well as when you could start & how long you envisage it to take & we can go from there.

If i then decide to come on here & discuss at great length, be it 1 post or 1 million posts then that's my business. It doesn't reflect at all on who we're calling, when we're calling them, how often we're calling them or what we're saying when they're here.

From a post where you said you didn't really have money to get the work done. So when these builders get wind of that then they're just gonna walk out your house because to them you're just wasting their time.

The first damp guy I got in, after giving me a quote (he must have expected me to give him the work there and then), I told him I've got a few other guys coming to to give quotes..... and after hearing that he couldnt get out the house fast enough :rotfl:
  • Fair enough.

I don't know exactly what post you're referring to but i don't have the money for a solid floor that's for sure. Not after talking to a supplier for cost of materials alone, without cost of labour on top. That one is a certain no-no based on budget alone.

Concrete beam approach - we'd have to see what it cost, but the chap we had yesterday said this was going over the top & totally unnecessary for what was there & in the condition it currently is.

So then you're on to leaving the floor as it is (so no cost there), a decent sump pump (approx £350) & replastering of the walls - however much that costs. That's no problem.

This missus put it to this chap yesterday about a new pump & only after mentioning a few times that she had no idea how old this pump was, what make it was etc etc etc did he finally say well yes you're right, it might be best for a new pump.

    Oh really.

But he was going on about how you can get a £50 pump from Screwfix & just chuck it in.

    Well a £50 pump to me = £50 quality = £50 lifespan.

I'd rather spend a bit on something that's fairly decent & should hopefully last.
