Sky - To move house with them or to cancel and rejoin?

Options
Hi,
I'm currently with Sky and have the Entertainment Extra HD package with the F1 channel thrown in for free. We also have unlimited broadband but not the telephone as that is through another company because its a business line (we live above my wifes business).
We will be moving to our own house in the next few weeks and I'm trying to work out weather to cancel the sky package and take it out as a new customer under my wifes name or if its worth moving with them and haggling on the price?
Is there a general consensus on who gets better deals, existing or new customers?
PS. at our new house we will probably end up having a phone line, broadband and TV package.

Cheers,
James

Recently went through the same scenario.

Ended up joining as a new customer in the other halfs name. 12 months half price, free installation, free 2TB box, Sky+HD box for multi-room + M&S gift voucher. Moving with same account best they were offering was free installation.

I had the same scenario a month or so ago, I telephoned intending to cancel, as I figured I could benefit from the new customer deals if the relative I was moving in with joined up instead of me.

speaking to the customer retention team, they were very happy to offer a deal to stay as an existing customer.

they gave me two completely new boxes (as mine were several years old) for free, reduced my broadband down to the £3.75 per month price for new customers (I was paying £17) and did the whole home move for free.
plus by removing parts of the package that I very rarely used (movies) my bill has reduced from £93 PM to £51

give them a call, see what they are prepared to offer
LBM March 2015. Started DMP 1/6/15.

    Total debt £27906

    Emergency fund £3450/£5000
  • £93 per month - ouch! I had the movie channels a while ago and found that there is hardly any new movies, same stuff just on repeat.

Suppose it doesn't hurt to try both.

Our box is 3-4 years old so would ideally like a new one, and the multi room is something I have considered.

    Will feedback with result asap.
  • Calling as a new customer they were only willing to do the online offers available to everyone - but I think I got the lazy or new customer service person as they didnt seem to know much.
Calling as an existing customer I kept my existing packaged (Eqv. to Entertainment Extra HD with F1 channel) with 10% off , half price line rental and £2.50 off the broad band all for12 months. Totals around £41.

Downside is because they are busy this time of year apparently it will take them over 2 weeks for an engineer to do the move... but after complaining about that they have credited my account with one months bill.
So not to bad, I'm paying less but getting more.
