Perhaps you can tell me how long BT are likely to take to provide the MAC - will they take the full 5 working days? And does anyone know why it takes any time at all, can it not simply be generated on request at the push of a button or click of the mouse?

Yes, it can be generated instantly, but the regulator does not require them to provide it instantly. And of course it's not in their interest to do so, in the hope that you'll change your mind.

I spoke to Plusnet and while they said that the switch could happen with the cap in place they didn't fill me with confidence that it would happen right first time. So kwikbreak's explanation has helped more.
