How do you go about washing your inside walls?

I'm a pretty clean person generally but whilst living in my flat 2 years now I've never cleaned the walls (or celings for that matter). I don't know why as I'm sure walls get natural dirt on them from dust air etc like anything else.
So what's the easiest way to go about this? I do not like the idea that some people do of carting a mop and bucket around and trying to mop up the walls.
Would a load of general purpose wipes do the trick?
How do others do this?

I've only ever given a wall a wipe if it has a mark on it. As for ceilings, the only time I've ever heard of anybody cleaning one is if there has been a smoker in the house & it needed to be done prior to redecoration. Or in the case of a small kitchen where perhaps over the years a film of grease has built up.
Do yourself a favour & don't go creating unnecessary work for yourself. Life is too short. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -

No, I'm generally wondering what's the easiest way as this seemed the right kind of board.
I felt a bit lazy as I've never bothered, apparently a lot of people give them a clean every now and then, and when I thought about it logically it does seem funny to dust/wipe other surfaces all the time when doing weekly cleaning but never bother with the walls so I thought as part of my 'spring' clean, I'd do it.0 -
you could just repaint them ..
I think that is how most people clean there internal walls.0 -
you could clean them with a sugar soap solution and a cloth if they are painted0
-
You could clean them with washing up liquid
But WHY would you want to?63 mortgage payments to go.

I cleaned my bathroom walls before painting them and was horrified at how dirty they were! I have since washed my bedroom and living room walls, just used warm soapy water.
Do I have too much time on my hands? I didn't think so but it would appear others think differently!0 -
We've never cleaned any of our walls, although we did once buy a house from a heavy smoker and had to re-skim throughout.
I'd hate the OP to have to contend with the walls as we found them when we purchased our current house.......the previous owner had stripped back virtually all the plaster (in 8/13 rooms) to the bare stone, creating the perfect breeding ground for dirt, dust and enormous spiders  There was no way we would - or could - clean those and we're currently engaged in the task of re-plastering every single one of themMortgage-free for fourteen years!
