    Just to clarify (not for the OP as I suspect it's too much info but for others).

    MOBI *is* Amazon's proprietary format. EPUB is the standard and that's what the MOBI is made out of.

    True, but they won't reflow and allow you to modify the display as you could with an e-Pub or MOBI file.
