  • Kindle come in two forms e reader or tablet. Ereader is the ones that are called kindle or the paper white kindle. The ones with fire in the name are a tablet. What would you want to use it for?

Kindle will of course lock you into Amazon's walled garden. You can't use it to read standard MOBI e-books, only Kindle's proprietary format.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

    Mainly reading.

However, we have a long distance flight in the New Year, so movies / emails will be beneficial.

  • For reading ebook reader of either amazon make or any of the others of there others out there are best. There are some good tablets out there but those types of screen aren't good to read in sun light and battery life can be low. I always advice lots of research in order to purchase the best one for you.

Lots of people I know use Calibre to convert to and from Kindle format.

I have a 10" Android tablet (ACER A210). It's a bit heavy compared with some tablets, but I wouldn't go lower than 10"; you can buy Kindle books (I get the free ones) for Android, so not locked into one e-Reader format. I don't think it's that good in sunshine, but certainly in shade it's great. Use it a lot in bed for general reading and iPlayer before sleep.

Always take mine on holiday and would buy the same or similar if this packed up. Got mine on a cheap offer in Asda (and with iMutual cashback and shares for an even better deal).

PS - I have this very smart stand for it, which I love.

    Are those for reading only?

If so, will any Ereader do?

Are Ereader's just black ^ white, what if I wanted colour?

To watch movies, read emails, do I need something with "Fire" in the name?

Are there any alternatives to Amazon?

I don't understand what android is

It's the operating system behind many phones and tablets. Windows is the operating system behind many computers.
