I'm with mr-tom on this one (Snip)
By all means let them collect the damaged unit, but if they want compensation, they can sod off. Plus bill them for collecting it and storing it.
Cheeky bug***s.0 -
Do you want it ? No. Do they want it? Yes.
Tell them your wife took it to the tip, but you have a similar one in the attic, slightly shop soiled, they can have, if they buy your wife a bottle of red wine, and stop being tosspots.0 -
No.
(that's all I have to say, just making my post up to the required 10 characters here......)0 -
They've already disclaimed it so it can't be theirs. They went farther and told you to deal with it. They no longer have a claim on it.
I'm presuming you've not heard about anyone in the neighbourhood missing a kitchen unit.
You've kindly stored this unit for six months. I would say you are able to use, sell or donate it as you wish0 -

Great idea ha ha!0 -
I think they're pulling a fast one, but if you don't want the thing yourself, it's just taking up space in your attic. So tell them to come and collect it themselves, and don't say anything about any damage.0

I agree with most posters, this is a bit suss, after all this time. But as it's taking up space in your attic, tell them you tucked it away and they can have it if they wish, without needing to produce proof of ownership, in whatever condition it is now.
If they complain about the damage, ask for proof of ownership and query the six-month delay. That should sort it out and give you back your attic space!0 -
I' would tell them that they are welcome to it as it would be taking up valuable space in my loft but I would also advise them that you will not pay for any damage incurred in putting it up there, as it is in better condition than it would have been had it been left outside for the past 6 months. I would also say, that as a neighbourly gesture, you wont charge them for storage over the past 6 months either.
I doubt they have proof it is theirs - and I doubt they could prove you damaged it too. Oh and I would let them struggle with getting it back down from your loft as well - so any further damage to it would definitely be their own doing - and make sure they know they will be liable for any damage to YOUR home that they might do when removing it too.0 -
I really need to know if this is a true story. So odd. What would I say to them? "What the heck are you talking about, neighbour?"
Why would you stick an abandoned kitchen unit in your loft? There was no indication of where it came from? Just a blank cardboard box? It was probably nicked and the neighbours were waiting for the coast to clear.
Why would you even think of being responsible for damage? Strange, strange world we live in.0 -
I have to say ALL of this sounds suspicious. Neither person claims ownership, yet one takes it and puts it in the attic? What for?
Regardless, you have damaged something which doesn't belong to you - you should offer some contribution towards repair.0
