I don't think they did- a friend helped them rehome him (which is how he adopted us!) and she said he was always very well cared for. We're in touch with them and they miss him desperately. He was pretty overweight when we got him, so I don't know if he was maybe overfed and it's turned into an obsession...

I've been in touch with the behaviourist, but we keep talking to each other's voice mails at the minute!! I'm hoping to speak to her before the end of the day and get him booked in.

He's much perkier than he was, so we are really hoping he'll make a full recovery. He HATES the muzzle though; despite our best efforts he's not taking to it at all. He looks so sad when it appears! Still, as I keep telling him, it's better than what happened at the weekend. He's not taking much notice though!! Will keep you posted.....!

oh I see! he WAS overweight so has he been put on a diet? puts a different light on matters doesn't it?
of course you cant explain about diets to dogs - so perhaps he thought he was expected to find his own food? feeling rather peckish all the time? hmmmm. need to think some more on this.

It was exactly the same before the diet....we realised on about day 3 or 4 of having him that he was a bit of a foodie! Well, a lot of a foodie!

We joined a weight loss clinic thing at our vets, it was all very well managed by his nurse to make sure he was never starving! He has special food which swells in his tummy which he has throughout the day, and then snacks. He loves salad - carrot, cucumber, tomatoes - which we give him if he seems peckish. Mrs. B was walking him tonight and chatting to a lady with a cavalier; she asked about his muzzle and the Mrs explained, and she said her cav is exactly the same. P'raps it's a cavalier thing?! He is a pug cross cavalier.

I've spoken to the behaviourist now, and we had a long chat. She asked what he was fed and she said that he shouldn't feel hungry. She asked loads of questions, and pointed us in the direction of some online stuff which we'll look at. She thinks she can help, it's pricey but worth it we think. It will have to wait til after Christmas though!

Quick update....blood tests tonight were all fine. No damage done. Phew! Have spoken to the vets about the behaviourist....she's EXCELLENT apparently so think we will book her for after Christmas. Met a pug at the vets; his owner said that he is also a right scavenger - maybe both breeds he is crossed with are as bad!!! All very happy tonight, AND he's just had a good run round the garden in the hated muzzle - he was happily 'snuffling', and we relaxed knowing that he wasn't eating anything he shouldn't. Happy Monday!

yeah - I am sure they think they are human too! but, I really believe it is because staffies were 'poor mens dogs'. they were brought up in families and ate people food ie.'scraps' and thrived!

my springer meg was a right glutton - but she wouldn't eat veg!
