Windows 8 Updates - Download Progress

Nope. 8.1 will just not install via the store.

I saw an error - something like System Thread Exception: Not Handled, and then I got the usual restore on Windows 8. (At least the updates I'd applied stayed).

Looks like I'll have to try the update via the MS website. (I have retrieved the product key via Belarc). This'll have to be later in the week - I'm busy tomorrow night.

I've been through this recently myself and had to load on all the updates for windows 8 before windows 8.1 became available in the store. You can down load it with a local account, that's not a problem. The next thing to do is install classic start shell and you're away. I never see the pointless start screen now.

Downloading isn't the problem - the issue is with it actually INSTALLING. And yes, the Win 8 system was fully updated.

I'm thinking of doing the alternative 8.1 install method. (Or I might just leave it at 8 until 8.1 is mandatory).

Thanks for coming back on this but I won't be able to get the answer - my daughter now has it (the laptop - at uni) and she won't care about this now. (Unless and until she HAS to update).
