How much are your energy bills?

I was shocked to find out my aged parents are paying £157 a month on duel fuel (ageuk tariff with Eon)

I'm on the same tariff but we pay £65 a month on Direct Debit which we've managed to fix for 2 years. There's just the two of us in the house.

Was interested to know how much other people pay for energy...be it electric, gas, coal, wood etc

About £220 a month for gas and electricity. But we live in a 5 bedroom detached house and I only work part time so I am home a lot to use energy.

*ETA this is with British Gas and thankfully we fixed our prices about 10 days before they put them up last month.
  • My parents are in a 2 bed semi bungalow and they have their heating on quite a lot understandably. We are in a 3 bed detached house and are at home all day.

Mine vary between £80 and £110 per month (I try to give frequent meter readings). I'm with atlantic, standard online tarriff, 4 bed detached, with two kiddies under 5. I'm in the office 2 days a week but usually home the rest of the time. It's not instant hot water (pressure here is terrible) so I have a tank, but that runs off the gas boiler rather than immersion. Also have a gas fire but everything else is electric.

We do have lots of insulation though, even though the boiler is about 15yrs old. I guess it must still be reasonably efficient.

    Morning Gracie_1827,

I can't promote and what not on here:o, but are your parents on the best tariff for them? They can do a best deal for you quote on the website.

A couple of other things, is to make sure the account is billed up to accurate reads. There is also lots of info we can offer about saving energy, just let me know if you need my help.

  • Gas - Eon. Was a £25 month direct debit but in March it went up to £38 to cover the increase in bills. They've done a meter reading and knocked it down to £28 a month but when I checked the bills, I'd paid over £50 for the last 6 months. £48 of that was standing charges and only about £8 in actual gas... So they can 'cook my sock'. Changed to Npower at the weekend as their standing charge is almost 10p a day cheaper.
I'm also £46 in credit with Eon after paying the bill.

electric - ScottishPower. When they convinced me to change to them they quoted me £15 a month which slowly crept up to £77 at the beginning of the year... During this summer it dropped to £53 a month which I thought was down to me not having the heat lamp on for some of my lizards. Logged on to check my account after changing my gas and they wanted a meter reading. Gave it to them and my account is £150 in credit, so clearly paying too much for that as well.... They'd estimated my bill and took a payment, so before the bill I was over £300 in credit
