A tad ungrateful - how many other loyalty schemes offer free tea and cake, occasional £10 vouchers, Clarins samples etc? If you want them to remove your details all you need to do is ask, but then you'll probably moan when you can't benefit from the other perks!0 -
It would be interesting to know how much revenue has been brought in as a result of these vouchers. In fact, it would be fascinating to know how JL gathers such data in the first place given your comments about their systems.
It's unclear what you're referring to when you intimate JL's lack of profit. They are doing very well in a difficult and competitive commercial environment and lead their competitors. See my earlier post.
As for the machinery you claim broke down, that's an entirely separate issue. You don't say whether the machinery is leased or, if owned, subject to a maintenance agreement. Commercial machinery is designed for heavy use and if it fails to perform, JL would have a right of claim against the supplier. These scenarios would not result in costs for JL.
You have said previously that the majority of John Lewis customers are "horrible" but the evidence of others in this thread does not reflect that. Nor have you said which area you're in. I wouldn't criticise a single client of my employer because I feel that would be less than professional.
Why on earth are you being so sceptical? All I've done is tried to answer some of the common questions and explained what's going on behind the scenes. JL's handling of the vouchers hasn't been up to its usual high standards and all I wanted to do was try and give people an insight into why it's been so disorganised.
I'm not going into further detail about profit or which branch I'm from. JL keep an eye on what's being said about them and they'll be aware of this thread. I'm not sure where the line is but I'd rather not cross it if you don't mind. All I'll say is that just because other departments make a good profit doesn't mean catering sees any of it. It would be nice if it worked like that but it doesn't. A lot of things aren't logical there. That's the downside of everyone owning the company. It takes a long time for anything to happen and a lot of things are done in X way because that's how they've always been done, even if there's a sudden massive change like the vouchers.
As far as I know, the machinery behind the scenes is bespoke apart from the little dishwashers that wash the glasses. Also as far as I know, JL owns them. It's our maintenance guys who fix them when they break down. I haven't been there long enough to know any more details than that.
I'm glad that the few hundred people who have commented on this thread have received good service and haven't seen unpleasant behaviour from customers. Obviously the personal anecdotes of a few hundred customers who've been in the place to eat for a short time mean more than the anecdotes of a full time partner.
I've gone into details about rude customers because people on this thread asked about them. I don't particularly enjoy being negative because JL has its downsides but is a wonderful place to work. People have asked questions and I've answered what I can to the best of my knowledge. That's all.
I've said it before but I'm retiring from this thread now. I only joined it because I like being able to answer questions. It's nice to actually know the ins and outs of the company you work for, it really does make you feel like a partner. But you're taking it way too seriously and to be honest I can't be bothered having to type out all these long replies.
I hope everyone else has a good day and gets new vouchers.'til the end of the line0 -
I got three more vouchers yesterday! It's a very generous scheme and I wasn't expecting more vouchers. Shame to hear about people abusing the system - unfortunately people seem to develop a sense of entitlement very quickly.0

Sorry to see you leave this thread. I hope all goes well with your future career (I think you elsewhere mentioned your JL contract was ending).
Anonymous forums, rightly in my view, arouse some scepticism but your contributions have appeared genuine. It is also not always easy to read intentions in posts if you have a literal interpretation. I think that saying (post 332) about customers that "most of the time they're horrible" and that "If you treat the partner who serves you nicely then thank you, you are a wonderful exception" was probably written after a particularly bad day.
So thank you for your contributions to this thread and best wishes.0 -

The vouchers that arrived for my DH had different expiry dates and the current one ends on 19 August, so looks as though they are now dating them individually. His last one ends on 16 September so them seem to cover a 4 week period.
Probably if you receive any now the first one will expire sometime in September.0 -
odd dates received today so not much time to use the first one!
mine are valid to 22nd aug
23rd aug to 19 sep
