Tenth Anniversary Combo Breaker
Morning everyone.

Could anyone please shed some light on this for us...

75 year old MIL buys an iPhone3 of a car boot, phone has a pay as you go sim in it.
MIL takes the phone to CPWH for a contract sim and keeps her own original number she has had for 10 years.
The phone keeps 'recieving' daily texts messages by the dozens, well i say recieving the messages are not for her or her phone.
The messages are a 2 way conversion between outside parties and their mobile numbers come up.
The above messages are actually quite an eyeopener....drug deals, shop lifting orders, people arguing amongst themselves who owes the dealer etc etc...some quite amusing but a little disturbing.
MIL took the phone to CPWH and asked them to have a look and they are totally baffled and are at a loss of what is happening..
Anyone here have any ideas and how we can stop these messages as she wants to pass the phone on to a grandchild..?

MIL has now been and bought the new iphone5 (or whatever) it is as she has seen my daughters and wants to face time EVERYONE...a 75 year old with a gadget fetish :)

I know very little about iPhones, but is it iMessages by any chance, not SMSs?

Could be iMessage, Whats App, Viber, or other services. If she hasn't registered the phone, then it may still be registered to the Apple ID and related email address that the previous owner had.
    1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
    2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
    3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?

If it was me I'd be taking it down to the police and show them so they may follow the trail.
I also would be a little concerned about the history and background of the phone and the chance it will end up being blocked
It's not just about the money
