New and bit scared

  • Thanks again all.

Quick question about using my wife's 0% credit card offer. The form asked for details of existing loans and credit cards. All the credit cards are in my name only so I only mentioned the monthly loan figure as this is in joint names. Is this ok? Am bit worried. The card is a Santander one and that is who we bank with and I don't want them to think I am trying to pull a fast one!
  • I know your appointment with the mortgage guy was today so you may already have a plan in place now but I echo what has been said earlier about holding out a bit longer before selling the house.
As long as you are meeting the interest only payments on the mortgage you have some breathing space.
Get that SOA to balance, snowball the debts and then in a few years time you can start to address the mortgage capital.
  • Thanks Tabatha.

I didn't meet the mortgage guy in the end as I had to go home to take my wife to a medical appointment (it never rains . . .).

I am not going to do anything kneejerk though. We need to do some work to the house anyway, mainly cosmetic stuff, which will increase its value anyway (hopefully!). When my Mum and Dad asked what we would like for Christmas I said Homebase vouchers. How festive!

Can anyone please answer my question about the card application in my wife's claim?

I think you've done it correctly because credit cards belong to the individual and even when there is a second card holder on an account the primary card holder shoulders all the responsibility.

If you don't want to take my word for it though, post up the question on the credit card forum, they know everything on there. ;)

  • Thanks TCC and MM!

MM I have replied to the PM - I think so anyway - wasn't fully sure where I was meant to type as there wasn't a separate box for me to write in. Easily confused :o
  • You did good! I got the reply.

  • David,
I'm feeling inspired by your thread.
I asked earlier for some advice about borrowing more to cover our debts on the credit card section of MSE. I'm glad I came here instead :)
We'll be starting a similar journey to yours (although our house has a considerably smaller mortgage!) so I'll happily follow this thread.

Deep breath for me. I need to tackle lots of stuff.
You sound like you've got the hang of it all.
Thankyou. I'm glad you're getting on OK x
  • Thanks littlesarav.

Am only at the beginning and a long way to go. I certainly don't feel like I have the hang of it all - I wish! But everyone on this thread has been just so kind, helpful, constructive and honest and the feeling of not being alone is just so invaluable.

Hopefully we can continue to inspire each other to get to where we need to be. Keep in touch.
  • So a brief update.

Credit card in my wife's name now accepted so have transferred significant chunk of high interest Mbna debt. Have a few bids on e bay items and have changed gas/elec supplier.

Need to keep momentum though must keep motivated.

    Have a good weekend all.
