Selling my car
Hi
My car is currently for sale online and I have someone coming to view it tomorrow. He says he's bringing cash and I think he wants to take it straight away. Now I definitely don't want to lose a sale but is there any problems with him a) paying me in cash (£9k!) and b) taking the car straight away. I've only ever part-ex'd cars before so am not familiar with the selling process. I do know to give a receipt with both of our names and addresses on and also for me to keep part of the v5 to send to the DVLA.
Thank in advance for any help!

just make sure the notes are not fake ....£ 50 notes could be hard to get rid of.0

Are you comfortable handling and paying in 9k cash in the bank?
If not get a cheque!0 -

Not a good idea as the OP thinks they want to take the car, what happens if they do and then the cheque bounces all the way down the road.0 -
or you could ask to them to do a faster payment ....but can take up to 2 hours for such a large amount and new payment.....0

True, and I suppose if the buyer wants to "take it straight away" then the OP can't wait for the cheque to cash. Apologies OP!
EDIT: How about Paypal? Not sure if it's any more secure but could be an option.0 -
A cheque is fine, just obviously don't release the car until the cheque has cleared. Remember it's your car until it's paid for in full.
Also a good idea to make out 2 copies of a receipt for any money they pay you so there are no disputes later.
When I sold my car, I wrote out 2 identical receipts just on a piece of notepaper which said:
Received sum of £... from (buyer's full name and address) in part payment / full payment for (vehicle model and reg no.) on (today's date). Both of you sign both copies. (just re-read the OP - you know this anyway!)
Give 1 copy to the buyer and keep the other copy safe.If you will the end, you must will the means.0 -
Get a money checker pen, a big supermarket must sell them and use it on all the notes, if the buyer is genuine they wont mind waiting. I took 5k in cash for a car and did this.Slimming World Member - Started 05/02/150

Something like this is quite usefulas a checklist and receipt (2 copies).
I wouldn't have a problem accepting cash, provided I checked the notes. Last car I sold, the buyer brought £5,000 in cash. I was a bit gobsmacked. Just pay it into the bank as soon as possible.Je suis sabot...0 -
Faster payment and have a cup of tea whilst you wait for the funds to arrive.
Who ever suggested "cheque" needs shooting.0 -
If they want to come tomorrow then you can't really ask them to do a faster payment. He's wanting to collect on a Sunday so he's got the cash in his pocket already, he can't go to the bank to withdraw it tomorrow or get 9k out of the cash point... so he has to have the cash already on him when he turns up.0
