cancelled flights - what can I claim

Has anyone had experience of 1st flight being cancelled (mine was from BHX to CDG) resulting in the 2nd longhaul flight (CDG to JNB) being missed.
Not sure if I should claim for both flights or just the 1st European flight. Any advice would be much appreciated. The flights were Cityjet and AirFrance respectively, but all on one ticket.

How long after your scheduled arrival time did you arrive in JNB?
There would be one claim. (assuming your second flight was not cancelled or delayed...you just were not there on time to travel on it!) - but the compensation amount will be based on the distance from BHX to JNB

Thanks Caz for that. I'm new to MSE and it's taken a bit of time to get around the site.

I arrived in CDG 12 hrs late and then only because of my Consultant confirming my SA operation by fax, was put onto the day flight arriving late that evening. All in all, 12 hours late. Not sure what happened to the original night flight from CDG to JNB, probably overloaded.

Will use the full distance for my claim then.
