Please help on portable heater

Hi there,
I have a wet central heating system on economy 10 which seems to be very expensive to run - it's not even an option to use it tbh. Used it for a couple of hours the other night to find it has cost me over £2. Can't be doing that every night!
I'm looking for something that will heat the room we are using, I plan to only use it for an hour or so at a time. Could buy two if cheap enough to have one upstairs and one downstairs. Will probably use one to put a bit of heat in my daughters bedroom before they go in at night.
Not sure what other info is needed. Have thought of halogen heater or oil filled radiator?
Thanks, any advice hugely appreciated!

All electric heaters, regardless of price, are the same efficiency (100%) and therefore cost the same to run for the same rated output. So just buy the cheapest. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Hi there I have the same problem as you. I only wanted to heat the room I was in rather than the whole house. I used to have a calor gas heater but since the last time I bought a bottle of gas the price went up over 50% so I looked for an alternative which I' m very happy about. What I did this winter was to buy a Japanese paraffin inverter heater made by either Corona or as I have Zibro. Have a search on eBay. They are fan assisted heaters using only about 22W of electricity for the fan and the paraffin can give off up to 3KWH of heat. I use 28 second kerosene which although not recommended by the manufacturer is much cheaper that BS xxxx C1 paraffin. I found 28 second kerosene by going to the calor gas website and searching for a stockist near me and phoned them up to ask if they sold paraffin from the pump. Make sure you only use 28 second kerosene or C1 paraffin. I also add a product by the name of Exocet Premium Oil Additive apparently it helps with the burning and you can also get fragrance version. Look for hearing oil supplier and ask if they sell oil additive separately should be about £13 for 200ml which is enough for 1000 litres. Forget an electric heater, if you use on you might as well just put the gas CH system on and all those old wife's tales about paraffin heater simply aren't true. Those Japanese inverter heaters are the way forward and the Japanese know a thing or two ;-)0

Using the correct fuel these are more expensive to run than electric heaters.
Do you really want to breath in fumes from non recommended fuel?
Also, these heaters produce significant amounts of water vapour, which needs ventilating.0
