Currys gift vouchers caution.

If you are planning to give Currys gift vouchers for Xmas be aware that Currys do not accept them for all items. Was given gift vouchers recently and wanted to use them to purchase a new cooker which had to be ordered from the manufacturer. Apparently, as they have to order the cooker, they are unable to take gift vouchers in payment although they were happy enough to take the cash to issue the gift vouchers.
Customer services were useless when I queried it with them and just advised me to send an email to the customers services email address as they could not deal with my problem over the phone. Email response was to confirm that I could not use my Currys vouchers to purchase a cooker, and they wont refund the money used to purchase the vouchers, and now that I have asked them to show me where this is stated, that I cant buy a cooker that needs to be ordered, in their Ts & Cs they have stopped responding.
Next stop will have to be trading standards I guess.
Annoying to put it mildly.

I don't think you have a case. The person who gave you the gift vouchers might have a case but you were not involved in the original contract so complaining to TS will be a waste of your time. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. It's probably time to warn people not to use gift vouchers full stop. Consumer have lost millions in recent years buying vouchers for companies that later suffer financial difficulties making the vouchers useless.0

If the product was in store you will be able to use the vouchers, i believe that if its a special "direct from manufactoror" line you will have to order online, as decribes its direct from the manufaftoror and not in stores and vouchers can only be spent in stores.
Was it quiried or asked at the time of the gift voucher purchase if you could order products online with the card?
Maybe see if you can pass them on to someone as an xmas present..0 -
Could you pay with a card, order the cooker into store, then have it refund ed and pay with the vouchers?0

Why do people ever have anything to do with Currys?
Triumph of hope over experience, I suppose.0 -

Probably because they're one of the only high street retailers in that industry. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Why do people even buy gift vouchers?
All they are doing is giving the company an interest free loan.
Next on MSE forums.
Currys have gone bust, how can I get my interest free loan back from Currys?0 -

Gift vouchers are fine. They are more personal than giving someone cash so I see why people do it.
You just have to be careful and only buy gift vouchers for companies that are in in danger of going bust. I would say currys are safe at the moment but of course that can change. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. im an ex currys store manager, with many friends who still are, what you've been told is rubbish all items (except partmaster spares) are ordered through the till software, called eclipse. it takes gift cards for anything. woluldnt mind betting you didn't want the extended warranty? the salesman may have declined the sale on this basis by saying you couldn't use your card, if he was on a performance improvement plan for his warranty strike rate, then you may well have cost him his job if he sold it to youw ithout a warranty if your sale took his strike rate for the week/month below a certain level. sounds extreme, but ive seen it many times in my 10+ years there0
