What if there's an emergency and they can't get through to you? I would never hand my phone in to an employer!0

What happened 20 years ago?
People had your works contact number to call in an emergency, it's not that hard.0 -
A lot of companies are starting to encourage workers to use their own phone in work. Google BYOD.0

Who are they?
They(those that think it is an emergency) should have the employers number and call them to alert you to the emergency.
The reality it is very rare there is a true emergency that the person in a work place is the only person that can help and NEEDS to be in instant contact.0 -

Bearing in mind that some employers won't always be co-operative in taking messages for their staff. This is all about more control over the poor employee. Between the contract and the company handbook they can pretty much do what they want.0 -

What rubbish.
Not to mention an emergency is usually classified as - what's for tea? Do you want to go out tonight?
Do you not understand the very valid rules relating to data protection that drive this kind of policy?0 -
but I do like to text friends etc. *!!!!ed*
Don't you have anything better to do then? - like working?
There are thousands of unemployed people out there at the moment like me but you think you're being hard done by because you can't run your social life while working?
Reality check..0 -
So now we're not allowed to use our phones at lunch break either. We have to go outside. Does anyone else here have a similar rule? I think it's ridiculous.
I would never call someone in the office on my phone, I would go outside, but I do like to text friends etc. *!!!!ed*
