Old Contract? Ask them to keep the line open

Hi peeps,

I thought I'd share something that happened to me last week.

I've had my O2 contract for a while and called them to cancel the contract. I told them I'd already just taken out a package with Vodaphone as I wasn't happy with the upgrade package they'd offered me (I lied about the Vodaphone bit as I didn't want them putting me through to the sales line).

A few days later, I got a call from O2 asking me if I'd like to "keep the line open" in case I decide to come back next year. After a bit of questioning, I found out that this is actually a new yearly contract with zero line rental and no itemised billing. So on paper it appears you don't have a current contract where as the reality is I get 25 mins cross network calls and 25 texts FREE per month!

Now I hardly use my phone and when I do it's just to arrange stuff. So this tiny package is all I need really. My phone bills have now cut from about £35 a month to £0!

Try asking your network provider if they'll do this too if you've had your contract long enough.

It doesn't matter if you are on the second year of the contract. They're doing that because want to keep you with them. I also have no problem of getting 200 mins and 250 texts free for whole year by credit too as long as you dont need any handset, You can have a try too!

Surely if I were still on the first year of the contract, they'd hold me to the £30ish line rental I signed up for.

Thanks for the tip about the free texts and mins. :) I would give it go but I'm currently tackling my poor credit record (can't get anything!).
