Cancelled Sky HD + Multiroom.....

Options
Intend to get the multi-room back when i get bored with netflix, but the girl told me that the box will only work free on my current card for 12 months, after that she implied it wont even pick the channels up that dont require the card to be inserted.....does anyone know if that is correct?

If you take out your card it becomes a free to view box and there is LOTS of ftv channels we have 2 set up in spare rooms without the cards and we pick up all the free channels and can tune in via other channels certain channels without an epg. So they are talking the hot stuff that horses leave all over the road :)

Sorry your terminology is totally incorrect. There are two types of subscription free channels -
FTA (Free to air) which do not require any card in a Sky box to view
FTV ( Free To View) which although free of any on-going monthly or annual subscription, but do require an active FSFS (FreesatFromSky) viewing card to view - a cancelled subscription card will act as a FSFS card until the next encryption change. The FTV channels include Sony TV (and +1), Sony Movies (and +1), Motors TV and LFC TV. The encryption change (and hence card change) will be within the next year due to Sky's contract with NDS (the encryption providers) requiring a change every 5 years. This is possibly what the CS rep and/or the OP have got confused over.

The Sky box however will continue to act as a FTA receiver after the card change.

Please be careful over the difference between FTA and FTV channels. It is a confusing system with the FTA terrestrial system being named Freeview.
