website hosting - help please

Can anyone who knows about website hosting please give me some advice.

I work at a small pre-school and a few years ago we paid for a basic website. The guy who produced it also aquired the domain name and hosted the site and we paid a annual fee.
This April he emailed to say he was no longing hosting websites and had paid for ours to be transferred to another provider for 1 year.
All ok until last week when the website disappeared. When you try and open it, it says website can not be found.

I have emailed the new host contact but no reply.
Through "whoisit" I have found that the domain name is paid for until March 2014 and the host is Repohost.co.uk but when I look for that on google nothing appears. I also found the guy who is the host contact on a website called wjunction advertising many web services.

Any advice please. Is there anyway we can get our website back.

Repohost.co.uk shows as "Firefox can't find the server at repohost.co.uk."
    http://whois.domaintools.com/repohost.co.uk shows
"Domain Status: Registered And No Website"

    check your domain at http://www.intodns.com

did you take a backup of your site?

If repohost.co.uk have gone to the wall, you need to find out who their domains are registered with. Then contact them direct and explain.

They will get your domain name back for you and into your name.

I had this once before when my host disappeared overnight.

But then you just have the domain name, not the content or anything else - it's possible that has been lost forever. You can install Wordpress with most hosting companies with a couple of clicks, then you could copy/paste your old website across page by page, from cached copies.

Then jiggle it all about and find out how it works.

If, however, you had an email/newsletter list, if the site content's gone that'll be gone too.

First step is to get the domain name back and into your name.

Repohost register everything through http://www.crazydomains.co.uk - so contact them and say the following:

"Hello, I had a website hosted by repohost and they appear to have gone to the wall/disappeared.... but I want my domain name back. Please help me get my domain name back. What do I need to do?"

Second step is to arrange hosting......

Third step is content. I've had a quick look and can't find any cached copy of the website online, which means you'd have to recreate it from scratch at worst.

    Hi
the person that originally hosted the website did not transfer it from their name and it is registered with a company called Heart.
It was the the hosting of the site that was transferred to repohost. Does that make any difference?
We paid the original person to produce the website for us and have no copies of anything.
  • How long ago was this website developed and online?

I am surprised that nothing is found even here http://web.archive.org/web/http://www.stmichaelspreschoolwilmington.co.uk - as if it doesn't exist.

Is/was this the correct URL? http://www.stmichaelspreschoolwilmington.co.uk

i would contact nominet ( nominet@nominet.org.uk) and explain to them as they oversea .co.uk domains as if the domain is not in your name any host will not do anything as you dont own the domain.

The website went online beginning 2012. I was told it was being transferred to a new host in April 2013 and I am sure all was ok until a few weeks ago.

yes that is the correct URL.
  • Are you still in touch with the person that registered/built and hosted the website? If so, they will have registered in their own (assuming "Heart" is Heartinternet.co.uk) Heartinternet domain services package, they can easily do an inter-customer transfer to your own name (you'd need a free Heartinternet account). That way you would always control the domain and where to host it.

Yes its Heart Internet. their inter account transfer system is a nightmare, but as above would be the easiest way to get control of the domain.

but it does look like as their is no site as the host repohost seems to have vanished their maybe no copy of your site
