Gas oven not heating up!

Hope someone can help with this, waiting for my dinner to cook!

I turned my mains gas oven on over half an hour ago to cook dinner but it doesn't seem to be reaching temperature? Normally, I fire it up at mark 9, which makes a very distinct sound when the flames fire up, then turn it down to the required mark setting, but this didn't happen tonight and it seems to be 'warm' but definitely not at the required temp for cooking!

Does anyone have any ideas or advice please?

Sounds like the thermostat isn't working.

Not difficult and generally not very expensive. DIY and it should cost about £10.

Do I have to buy a genuine Creda part or are they universal? (Sorry, know nothing about such things!)

Get a gas safe engineer in who knows what they are doing on white goods.

Playing about with Gas if you don't know what you are doing is like playing Russian roulette !

But doesn't a thermostat just measure the temperature of the oven? Does that still need a gas safe engineer to fit?

No it doesnt, it measures the temperature AND regulates the gas flow to the burner, AND only a qualified Gas Safe registered engineer with the correct Gas Safe module can carryout work on ANY gas appliance, LEGALLY :(

There was a chap making a parachute jump, (DIY parachute packer) and as he jumped out of the plane the chute failed to open. He plummeted downwards and at about 1500 ft he met a bloke going upwards !!!!
Help the parachutist shouted, Do you know anything about parachutes ?
No ! the other bloke replied --- Do you know anything about gas ovens ?

Thanks for everyone's input/advice, really apppreciate it.

Have sourced the best price thermostat for my oven and it's going to cost around £43.

Can anyone give me a rough idea of what it would be likely to cost to have it fitted? I know this is a bit of a 'how long is a piece of string' question but just a ball-park figure would be great. Trying to weigh up whether it's worth getting it fixed or stumping up £200 for a new cooker!
