Downgrading tariff to trick cashback?
Hi,
We all know that cashback is dependent on you staying on the same tariff - but how can the cashback giver know that you've done this?
Taking e2save as an example, they give cashback at months 6 and 12. Since you can downgrade your tariff after month 6, what's to stop you downgrading for months 6-11, then returning to the original tariff for month 12 (to claim your cashback)?
There must be something to stop you doing this, but I can't think what!
Help gratefully received!

Interesting question - I understand that CPW have a revenue sharing deal with some operators where by they get a percentage of every bill you pay for ever for each contract they sign up - hence their 'rule' that you must not downgrade even after the 6 month network clawback period. However I don't suppose the clerks processing the cashback would normally have time to check this as they only request the one bill - however getting the timing right so that the 12m bill does not show the 'upgrade' is probably quite tricky.I think....0

Many cashbacks depend on the same tariff for the first 6 months, but some may need the full 12 months. Discuss it with the dealer. I don't think you'll be able to trick them.0

with some of the cashback deals for "free 12 months rental" or 10 months at £4.99etc why would you need to downgrade?0

It's a "10 months at 4.99" offer that prompted this - the remaining 2 months are £30pm, which works out at more than the first ten months!
It just occurred to me that if you don't use all the monthly minutes you could save a fair bit by downgrading to a £15pm where possible.
Of course, if it scuppers the cashback then it's not worth it.

You are right; it's worth checking as many are still ok after 6 months. It was and probably still is possible to get deals like £270 a year with £255 back or even £225 a year with £240 cashback.0

mobilesuk.net pay all their cashback after 6 months.0

cpw and e2save don't allow tariff changing, although onestopphoneshop due with no penalty to the cashback.0

I've checked the t&c on CPW website and can't see anything about you can't downgrade your tariff! Can anyone point me in the right direction as to where this is on their website?blueghost wrote:cpw and e2save don't allow tariff changing, although onestopphoneshop due with no penalty to the cashback.
