Ask if there is a clinical need for it. If so, ask why it is not included in your NHS treatment plan.0

If you are in England, A scale and polish should be included in the basic examination price of £18.
http://www.nhs.uk/NHSEngland/AboutNHSservices/dentists/Pages/nhs-dental-charges.aspxBand 1 course of treatment – £18.00
This covers an examination, diagnosis (including X-rays), advice on how to prevent future problems, a scale and polish if needed, and application of fluoride varnish or fissure sealant.0 -
Although you go to a "NHS dentist", many no longer accept NHS patients and you have to pay as a private patient. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0

'Scale and polish?' is the first phrase dentists learn at med school0

As the OP is not paying for the check up, he clearly is being treated as an NHS patient.0 -

i am an nhs patient. i thought nhs patients still had to pay for checkups
sod the 18 quid anyway - ive got to have two fillings0 -
The dentist will give you a quick clean.
The hygienist will spend a lot more time and effort on your teeth and it should be around £19.
If you need 2 fillings, its in the second band of about £49 whether you have one filling or 10make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
