Thanks everyone. I think in view of all the helpful advice received that I'll buy a new one.
I was just comparing the CPU on this one:

compared to this dell one.

Any thoughts on which has the best CPU? Intel Pentium G2030 vs. AMD Quad Core?
Also how to get Windows 7 on it rather than the rubbish Windows 8. If I ask them might they swap?0 -

If you can take the PC case off with a screwdriver, you can install RAM and a PCI card. They just slot in.
All new PC"s now come with W8: if you don't like it just bung on Classic Shell and it will look like XP/Vista/W7: whatever you prefer. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

A8-5600K should be faster. And in long term, more programme utilize multi-core, Quad core would be better than dual core.
Also, machine with A8-5600K would has better graphic power than that integrated graphic come with G2030
And there is no OS pre-install with Zoostorm machine, you can buy Window 7 if you want to.

Comparison here - http://www.cpu-world.com/Compare/238/AMD_A8-Series_A8-5600K_vs_Intel_Pentium_Dual-Core_G2030.html
Your existing - Average Benchmark 342
A8-5600K - Average Benchmark 4357
G2030 - Average Benchmark 3061
System with A8-5600K only has USB 2. You should go for a system that includes some USB 3 as well. Its Power supply is only 250w which is a bit low. Better with 450w - 500w.0 -

By today's standards he would still end up with a slow computer.0 -
driving to the shops in a mclaren probably takes about the same time as a fiesta. For most uses, a modern processor is sat their doing very litttle most of the time. The most likely reason for the machine appearing slow is commit charge > ram, and bloated software, that's curable with very little effort.!!

I suggest you could get a quad core machine, which probably last another 5 years.
