Where to buy Desktop PC?

Hi, my desktop PC is about 6-7 years and very slow. So I need a new one. I'm old fashioned and don't want to buy a tablet or even a laptop. So I just want a new keyboard, mouse and system unit, the present monitor is fine. But when I went into Dixons the other I found no desktops on display, don't they sell them any more? So where do people go to buy a cheap desktop these days? Is dell, etc. still going?
Thanks for any advice.

Why not learn how to upgrade and speed up your current one?0

Well if the OP cannot even be bothered to use google to search on "dell" to see if they are, in their own words, 'still going', I can't imagine they have the wherewithall/interest etc to learn about upgrading their current PC.0 -
Dell is probably a good bet for a standard basic-to-mid ranged machine these days and they will do desktop without monitor units.
Have a look online also have a browse of their returns/factory refurbished site

People buy stuff online. Don't need to display.
What is your budget? What do you mainly use the PC for?0 -
I don't know about Dixons, but my local PCW still has plenty of desktops, as does Currys. Although that's the worst possible place to buy anything.
Start by doing a clean install or Factory Restore on the existing PC and it will run like new.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Thanks everyone. My computer is an AMD Athlon XP 2200+ 1.8 GHz, 80GB HDD, 512MB RAM.
So the HDD is nearly full up and it only has 4 USB ports which makes it hard to connect up a full range of equipment (mouse, speakers, wireless network adapter, etc.) at the same time.
I have defragmented recently but that made little difference. I end up having to restart the computer every hour or so as it gets so slow. I did formet the HDD and reload all the software a year or so ago but that made little difference. I had just assumed that my computer is too old and slow to cope with modern computing technology and the internet. But maybe I'm wrong?0 -
I didn't think there were any Dixons stores still around except in airports!
Aldi had quite a good desktop on offer recently otherwise dell or ebuyer are good starting points if you happy to purchase online.0 -
We previously had a Dell but bought one from Novatech in August and are very pleased with it. For a similar spec they were cheaper than Dell (considerably cheaper as we wanted an SSD). We bought online, unseen, but they do have shops you could go to if there's one nearby.
One tip if you go with Novatech - the stock keyboard and mouse supplied are really cheap quality (and indeed they sell them for about £5.99 each on their website which should tell you what they're like!). If you go with them you'll want to either keep your existing peripherals or buy separate ones. But for the spec we wanted they worked out a good amount cheaper regardless.
They were also doing cashback through TopCashBack when we bought - not sure if they still are...0
