Premier inn - group booking

Looking for a bit of advice if possible please.
I wanted to do a group booking with Premier Inn on line for the cheap rooms at £29.

However, if you want more than 4 rooms ( I wanted 9) you have to use the online “Group bookings” service.
I did an online booking enquiry but it took Premier Inns 3 days to respond – because of this the cheap rate is no longer available.

Also what the website DOESN’T tell you, is that if you DO book on line (which you have to do for a group booking) you DON’T get the cheap rate!

When I complained to Premier Inns, they responded with “Sorry, the website is being updated”

Surely Premier Inn should have put a “tag” on their website advising group bookings do not qualify for the cheaper rooms and that their website is being updated?

I feel that this is total mis-representation by Premier Inns and that my pensioner outing has now to be cancelled because they cannot afford the more expensive price and unfortunately, we cannot change the date

Can anyone suggest who to contact at Premier Inn to complain to?

Thanks

If Premier Inn work like Travelodge, then there will only be a certain number of rooms available at the cheap rate, so you probably wouldn't ever have got all 9 at that rate even if you had booked them individually.

Is there not a contact us / customer service link on the website to handle your complaint ?

I'm sorry that I can't help specifically with whom to complain to, but I am sure that their main website has a "contact us" section.
When I did a Premier Inn group booking, I contacted the hotel directly and spoke to the manager - they then have a vested interest in making sure that it all goes smoothly. They did charge £31 per room for 20 rooms, as it was only for one night (£29 offer is for at least 2 nights).
I don't know what Travelodge would have done - there wasn't one nearby for me to compare.

I have written to customer relations but haven't had a reply as yet.

I did ring the hotel direct but they said that £29 is an online price only - if she took the booking it would be £70 per room!

I think you are right when you say I would probably not have got all 9 rooms at that price...

Just very disappointing all round :(
  • I've done several group bookings for work at Premier Inn. If you want the cheap rate then book online 4 rooms at a time until they run out of the £29 rooms. There are only so many rooms at the cheap price and this will vary from one hotel to another. On one occasion I managed to get 12 rooms at £29, but for our Christmas do I only got 10 at £29 then paid £35 for the other 6. It is in the T&C's somewhere that the cheap rates are online only. You don't get them if you phone up (which you have to do for a group).
If you want to make sure you get rooms for everyone in your group then phone up and book for the whole group first (this will come out of the full price allocation for that hotel)and then go online and book 4 rooms at a time until the price goes up. You can then call back and cancel rooms from the group booking. I did this the first time I had to organize the booking and ended up cancelling the whole thing.

did you try booking less than 9?
  • I would try Travelodge instead. They've always provided this exact service for me.

Travelodge prices have risen due to tv advertising and a 'refit' in the hotels, book your rooms then complain your rooms were dirty and you're going to complain to head office, you'll get a refund. Or perhaps a microwaved breakfast...

In future there is nothing stopping you booking the rooms separately (ie 3 booking of 3 rooms)

The group booking conditions are more restrictive and generally dont include the discounted rates as these are for a limited number of rooms per hotel / night

I would always book a Premier Inn over a Travelodge, even their Refurbished hotels are grim!!

    Hope that helps!
