I am looking at this one:

    http://www.kronch.co.uk/shop/pet-feed/kronch-pet-feed-main-7-5kg-detail#.UoQdW_mpVug

    Ingridients:
Barley, wheat, fish meal, lard (food grade), fresh salmon (16%), maize, blood meal, sugar, brewer's yeast, garlic, vitamins and minerals.

    Only 16% salmon?

The above does not look very good, does it?
  • Wouldn't say it's good TBH

The ingredients have to be listed by quantity - highest to lowest, so barley & wheat must be in fairly high quantities if the salmon is only coming in at 16% :(

I just got my two this http://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/dogs/dry_dog_food/purizon_dog_food/adult/315590
Ingredients17% dried deboned chicken, 17% dried poultry meat, sweet potatoes, dried potatoes, 7% powdered egg, 7% deboned salmon, 5.5% dried herring, 5% dried duck, peas, 3% poultry fat, 3% hydrolysed chicken, 3% dried salmon, alfalfa, 2% fresh deboned duck, pea starch, pea protein, potato protein, minerals, vitamins, 0.5% salmon oil, psyllium, apples, carrots, spinach, fructo-oligosaccharides (FOS), algae, chamomile, peppermint, aniseed, fenugreek, marigold, dried herbs (thyme, marjoram, oregano, parsley, sage), cranberries

Not perfect & there's stuff in there they don't need but it's a high meat content with no grains.

It's only rated 2/5 on whichdogfood

    Low or unspecified meat content

Contains some common allergy causing ingredients

    Contains some cereals

    Unclear ingredients list

I'd say there are much better foods available in that price range, whichdogfood do an Advanced Dog Food Search

The highest rating foods are high meat content and grain free ones, it's worth reading up on dog food, there's loads of information out there.

Eden Multi Meat And Fish Formula scores 5/5 and is very highly regarded, I've been feeding my dog Millies Wolfheart for a month or so. It comes in three 'flavours' so he doesn't get the same stuff every meal, and he's really thriving on it.

It's not just a salmon food though - fish meal is in there above the salmon, so greater than 16% - so that's at least 32% fish

Still means there's more barley and wheat in than meat/fish though, then some maize on top of it, which would bother me for that price range of food

I know it is not ideal but my friend has 4 dogs (3 GS and one little mix of everything) - after losing her flat (fire) and being practically homeless since July, it is a bit tough for her.

Feeding this one, it costs her £70.00 per month for all 4 dogs.

My Zara is on Orijen but of course Ewa could not afford that for her 4 dogs.

I am thinking of getting her some dog food as Xmas present but that Kronch does not appeal to me.

Can anyone recommend something that would cost around the same £70.00 per month (more less) to feed 4 dogs? Keeping in mind 3 of those are GS?

    (scratching head)

For the same sort of price, Wainwrights salmon & potato has about 30% fish in too but the main 'filler' as such being potato rather than cereal.

Salmon Fish Meal (26%), Potato Starch (26%), Sorghum (19%), Barley (13%), Rapeseed Oil (5%), Sugar Beet Pulp (5%), Whole Linseed (3%), Alfalfa (2%), Minerals (includes Yucca Extract 200mg/kg, Marigold Meal 50mg/kg, Rosemary Extract 5mg/kg), Seaweed (0.5%), Glucosamine (0.1%), Chondroitin Sulphate (0.1%), L Carnitine (3mg/kg).

It scores 3.6 out of 5 stars on the Which dog food website linked above too, so better than Kronch.

Or Autarky - the salmon has 35% salmon, and rice rather than cereal (it does have some prairie meal though, which is maize gluten), but works out a bit cheaper than Wainwrights

Thanks - she was feeding them Autkary but was complaining about very smelly poo....I remember now that Zara had a very smelly poo on Autkary too.

Need to find something that she will be able to sustain long term, will have a look at Wainwrights, thanks.

CSJ No grainer is one of the more expensive in the range, but under £40 for 15kg so in a similar budget to Kronch. Without the grains, you should find smaller, drier and less smelly poo
