Why would the greedy house building firms in this country want to build MORE houses than they do already.
This would only keep prices in check and stop them zooming even higher.
Supply and demand, in their case keep the demand up but the supply down.
Rip off Britain at it`s best.
why are they building more now?
surely better to build none and make an absolute killing
have you considered entering the industry as it's money for doing nothing0 -
Not much of a business strategy if that's the case. Taylor Wimpey managed to lose £2.5bn in the 5 years to the end of 2012.
Wise up, you can`t sell houses after the whole banking system nearly collapsed in 2008, no one had any money to buy them,
Now the greedy builders are rubbing their sticky hands again and making for up lost time and profits.
You tell me why they can`t build more, I`ve told you why they don`t.
They`re just like the energy companies, working what`s practically a cartel.0 -

They are building more now because they have been able to rack up prices sky high thanks to FLS and Help to Buy.
Building none doesn`t make any money. I thought that would be obvious, even to you.0 -

Not the supply of building materials nor the lack of skilled tradesman. Nor the NIMBY's who block every new development in the UK.
Nor the lack of FTB's in some areas due to the prohibitive cost of housing.0 -

I don't doubt that any commercial group would be happy to collude together to rack up prices if they were able.
With the building industry this doesn't seem feasible
- there are several thousand builders in the UK and it doesn't seem possible for them all to form such an illegal cartel without it becoming widely known
- it fairly easy to set up a building firm as there are few barriers to entry, so if the big boys kept prices high by limiting supply, this would open the way for the others to make big profits by building as many as possible.
-there seems to be little evidence that there are queues of buyers with deposits and mortgage offers that are being refused new houses
- the low level of new builds over the last few years has been the lack of mortgages rather than builders hoarding land0 -
I`ve answered your question why the UK builds less houses than France and if your so stupid and naïve not to see it there`s no more to be said.
You've answered nothing all yiu said was that they are greedy so they byild few toget higher prices. That is cerly wrong becuase French and German builders are just as profit motivated yet supply and stock is ample vs the uk.
Here is a better theory. The builders can't build more than the councils give out in building stamps. The builders won't build unless they can make a profit and in the UK that is harder than elsewhere due to things tjat should be funded through general taxation being placed on new builds via s106 CIL and the like0 -
Its one thing to build more properties but quite another to build the right type of properties.
I'm told that one third of the adult population live alone these days. Many of these live in houses that are too large for their needs. I am opposed to any attempt to force people to down size, but people will sometimes downsize to the right size of property, but building small houses/flats with no parking is no incentive to many of them.Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.0 -

you are correct
we must stop the dead hand of the state determining what the mix of properties are built and allow the people who actually want them to decide.0
