Ok, I have an issue at work.
Offered Interview, attended, offered job in NHS.
Two days after starting, supervisor and I meet for 1st time and told that it should have been mentioned in interview that I will be expected to work up to 530pm.
I said that was okay.
2.5 months into job, having worked rotas of 730am to 4pm and 830am to 5pm I was asked to work 9am to 530pm, fine.
Then today I was informed the 9-5 rota would be on a permanent basis but every month for one week I will be expected to work 730-4 but with only a months notice when this 'early week' will be.
My understanding was that I would be on a rota on a permanent basis, some early, some lates.
Now, the supervisor Jo states she cannot do lates because she is only able to find a car parking spot early on.
The assistant supervisor Melissa states she cannot do lates because her husband picks her up at between 4 and 5pm.
A colleague called Sarah stated that she would refuse outright to do lates because of the distance involved with travelling home at night.
A colleague called Rosalind has no preference but works early and mid shifts but not lates.
A temp called Laney does not have to work lates as her hours are negotiated with her agency and the Hospital Trust.
I have no problem working lates so long as it is on a rota basis with plenty of notice, I would like a level playing field.
I have responsibilities as I am a co-carer for two elderly relatives who are suffering from cancer.
Now, as the only bloke surrounded by women, am I being treated unfairly, discriminated against directly or indirectly or are equalities being breached in some way?

I hope those aren't your colleagues' real names...if they are, edit it asap!
Does your employer know that you're a carer, or that you have any issue with the shift times? If not, they can hardly be blamed for putting the person who says he's happy to do lates on lates, rather than the people who say they're not happy to do it. That's not discrimination, that's just sensible.0 -
I very much doubt it's to do with you being a bloke. Everybody else has played the game and left you with the worst shift0

Op if its once a month for one week and the others can not do it, who is doing it on the weeks you aren't?We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Agree with Annisele, if you're generally happy to do the lates but would like more notice of the earlies, then say so! Or, indeed, if you'd rather not do earlies it sounds as if there are plenty of people happy to do them!Signature removed for peace of mind0

What's the actual problem?Sanctimonious Veggie. GYO-er. Seed Saver. Get in.0 -
Names are all fake, the problem is fairness. I have not been given the option. If everyone did the various start and finish times then everyone would be equal.0

As I see it the others' wishes are their desires and so no discrimination issues; they happen to be female, but are flouncing to get their way. Some of them might have leigitmate concerns/logistics issues, but they're still flouncing.....I am a co-carer for two elderly relatives who are suffering from cancer.

You've a trump card with the whole caring stuff.0 -

Line Manager aware of caring responsibilities, aware that I am disabled also, aware of anxieties working alone and unsupervised, dont have an issue with tight daytime shifts so long as everyone does them. Everyone else do permanent earlys or middle shifts with crappy excuses like not being able to locate a parking spot or waiting around for a lift...0 -
