The Wedding Speech Thread

I'm getting married in a few weeks, and I desperately need some help to make my groom's speech funny.

If anyone has a brilliant one liner that I could use in my speech, please post below!

Thanks a lot!

Unless you are naturally gifted and funny, my best advice is don’t try too hard.

Everyone will be willing you to give a good speech, but if you try and be something you are not, you could fall flat on your face.

Keep it short and sweet and remember that it is not your job to entertain everyone.

Say nice things about your bride, her family, your family, your friends etc. but leave the funny stuff to the best man, the father of the bride etc.

One or two good one liners would be fine but anything more will sound strained unless you really are a gifted public speaker. Most of us are not.

And whatever you do, don’t tell crude or dirty jokes. Do that on the stag night. :D

This speech will be like a mini skirt, short enough to be intresting but long enough to cover the essentials.

Or maybe thats more of a best mans speech
Work like you don't need money,
Love like you've never been hurt,
And dance like no one's watching

A good speech is not made of one liners IMO. They'll all have been heard before. Just make a speech from the heart.

I agree if your not naturally funny and known as the funny person then dont try too hard. If your funny your funny and people will lauph if your not and you try to be then you will !!!! it up. When you write the right things you will know.

One classic to start a speech is from the simpsons but it requires perfect timing. Homer says: if i could just say a few words

Id be a better public speaker.

Cracks me up everytime especially with Homers perfect timing:rotfl: . I think it would be really good in a speech if the person is funny and has perfect timing. Other than that it would fall flat if it was said wrong

God I remember my brother, he was best man at our wedding, hubby was fine, but my brother said about 1 line, was trembling and had to sit down, it was so funny x Just make it from the heart, say how you and your wtb met, (there could be a funny story in that alone or a sweet one for the girlies) Don't forget to thank people for coming, as I'm sure some would of travelled far and make a toast or if you don't make sure your best man does

I got on to talking about the wife's family in my speech and used (copied) the following line...........And how do we know that Adam and Eve lived in paradise.....there was a distinct lack of Mother-in-laws. Fortunately, m-i-l saw the funny side
