Does a DLA representative/examiner visit you for assessment? No one has been to see me. I had assumed they always send a doctor out to assess your mobility and needs etc

Not all claimants have a one-to-one assessment, it depends on the nature of your disability. My son and I both get it and we haven't had a home visit or assessment.

Both elements of the DLA are paid in one payment. They should send you a letter confirming your claim and telling you the amount, dates you'll be paid etc but in my experience the money usually turns up before the letter!

Mobility and Care component is NEVER paid as part of IS. It has absolutely nothing to do with IS.

The Care and Mobility component come together in the same package, separate to any other benefits.

The first I knew I was awarded DLa was it being paid into my bank account. I didn't receive the letter of confirmation for another 2 weeks after that. Mine was backdated for 12 weeks I think. I never seen a doctor either.

We claim DLA for our daughter. we had to phone the tax credit office ourselves to let them know as you do a get lot more CTC if your child is disabled.
If you get the middle rate DLA, you would get a disability element added to your CTC. If you get high rate DLA for the child then you will get the severe disability element added to the CTC. I don't think you need to let child benefit office know. DLA has got nothing to do with IS, and you can get it without it affecting your IS. let them know though as you may get a disability premium added to your IS, (if you are the person who is disabled) If your a carer and claim carers allowance you will get a carers premium added to your IS. DLA has nothing to do with housing benefit or CTB either but you should let them know just so that they have your income details correct - it will not affect your entitlement though.

BTW when I claimed carers allowance the money and the back pay went into my account the day before I got the letter telling me I had been awarded it. SIL had same thing with DLA.

Just to add - care and mobility componants are paid together. I get mine paid into the bank every four weeks.

First of all thanks to those who had replied.

Received a letter from DLA today saying i have been awarded high mobillty and middle care allowance. It also states the back payment which tally with the amount already paid into my account yesterday.

Have filled in the form regarding free road tax. Have decided to buy a car and not get one on mobility scheme because my award is only for 2 years.

Someone did mention that income support get notified automatically from DLA. To be on the safe side i rang Income Support. There is a flag on my 'account' saying that i have been awarded DLA and IS will be paying extra £25-25 per week which will be backdated to the start of the DLA award. Asked about housing benefit/council tax they recommended it is best to inform them to be on the safe side.

Rang housing benefit/council tax and they said to bring the forms in. I assume this will not affect my council tax. At present i don't pay it since i am on income support.
Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problems :( Well at least i learn something on the way :D
