When I asked, "what will I notice if the battery isn't changed ?", I think I know the answer now.
Today it is Friday 15th November, some of my favourite websites are still in Thursday 14th mode, ie Sky News, paperboy.com, digital spy,bbc weather and several more.
Unless someone else posts that they too have this problem, then clearly it really is the battery and the sooner the better. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

If by that you mean the web pages, they have been fine till I switched on this morning. I thought the printer was dead yesterday but it did work. I have lost connection or the pages have frozen recently and I have rebooted. From what I've read here and elsewhere, once the battery is on the way out, things start to happen gradually. I've read a link on CMOS battery and it all points to that needing to be replaced. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Hi,
you can get replacement battery for £1, here's a wee video showing you how to change it, not your model, but will give you an idea, you can skip the advert, annoying music.
What happened to your avatar, didn't you used to have an eye looking through a hole in a piece of paper?0 -

Yes, fancy you remembering that. Thought I'd have a change and remove it. As for video will look in a minute, but I have googled "replace cmos battery in acer aspire 9420" and it means the battery is not easy to access for me, it means someone has to do some delving which I am not competent to do, so will phone a local support shop.
PS, that was a great video and even though my laptop is different to the one in video, I am going to explore and see for myself, despite my initial concern that it will be beyond me.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Hi,
well, once you get the cover off, you'll have a better idea, good luck.0 -
I'm back now, (was in jamas and needed to shower/dress, whoops, too much information)
I removed all five covers underneath in the hope the battery would be there but it wasn't, so it looks very much as though access IS made via removing keyboard etc as shown in manual. I'm not happy about doing that, so at 9am will phone local support shop and tell them model and ask if they will do it today if I take it down. No doubt they will cost be a few £'s, but there's no other option is there?.This is a system account and does not represent a real person.
