Tethering via USB

After reading about tethering on here and as i temporarily have no home broadband, i took out the one plan from three.
I can connect to my computer through my phone as a wifi hotspot but not through usb tethering.
I have an android phone and a Mac but I have ordered the Google Nexus, it will be shipped in a few weeks.
I think I cannot connect via usb as I have an Android phone with a Mac, not a PC, is that correct.

sophlowe45 - you've successfully used WiFi tethering. You can use multiple devices via this method all at the same time. Mac/PC, tablet, phone as long as they have WiFi, they'll connect to the phone.
My question - why would you want to bother with USB?!0 -
Bluetooth is another way of linking a Mac to a phone.0
