The whole pay us 69.99 should put people off from applying, why pay someone else to do something you can do yourself for free.

yeah i get that but then why is there such a whoo haaa about it when it really is the applicants error? these people must make a fortune and not have to pay anything back

It's because there are still plenty of things that are legal, but wrong, and these companies' activities probably fall into that category.

It's not nice to take advantage of the naive or foolish like this, and should be discouraged, but that doesn't necessarily put it over the line into illegal.

There are numerous legal but unnecessary websites that take advantage of the naive, foolish or just plain lazy - Passport renewal and other similar sites for example. They "get away with it" because they offer a "value added service" and make sure that they don't break any laws - but no one really needs their services, just as no one needs the services of these "loan brokers".
  • yeah i get that but i bet over half of the people never get there money back

Probably. People are lazy, especially the people who could not be bothered to read the T&Cs before clicking "accept".

It's not really something to get upset over. Better they learn a good lesson for £70 than that they end up with an expensive loan.

I do get e impression, by the way, that your requests for help with your "research" are leading up to something as yet undisclosed. You aren't actually preparing a thesis, or working on a newspaper report, are you?

Come on, out with it, did you get stung yourself then fail to write for a refund?

  • Loan brokers are a great buisness model IMHO.
  • to be honest i imagine it as being a highly lucrative business and yes i have been stung in the past a few times and never bothered to write a letter as it just seems so hard to get your money back

I can see it being so "hard" to write a letter, put it in an envelope and walk to the post office to get your proof of postage.

If they fail to refund then you write a complaint and follow that up with a complaint to the FOS.

If 3 letters and a couple of walks to the post office aren't worth £70 of your time then you are obviously earning so much that one would question why you were visiting such dodgy sites in the first place.

If you have never written a letter then how do you know how hard it is to get your money back?

There are even template letters on here you can modify and print off. It really requires minimal effort.
