Has any ever had this problem? Bought our first house in April and always knew we had to fit a knew boiler, but we're having trouble getting anyone to do it. Here's the rundown.
What we want: new combi, 9 rads, magnetic filter, wireless programmer.
P1: family friend, retired due to ill health.
P2: wanted boiler in the attic, only dealt with alpha boilers. Heard numerous bad reports about alpha. £2300 just for boiler.
P3: wanted to replace kitchen unit for space for boiler, dealt with vaillant. Said comp was broke when we asked for written quote, never heard no more.
P4: wanted boiler in attic, vaillant boiler, recommended replacing TRVs instead of new rads with flush. £4533! Too dear.
P5: thought we'd have British gas round for a laugh, similar quote to P4, declined to put in filter. £4600 (no rads).
P6: an electrician giving us a quote on a fuse board, gave us a quote at the same time as he said he did boilers, thought why not. This guy actually was the first person to come round and wanted to put the boiler where we wanted it originally, but every other plumber said it wouldn't meet regulations for flue, so knocked him off the list.
P7: liked this guy, sounded promising. Never came back with a quote.
P8: liked this guy too, also never came back with a quote.
P9: he said he'd quote for vaillant, but put vokera on the quote. £3300 plus £100 per rad.
P10: liked this guy too, a friend of a friend is a builder, this is his plumber. Said he'd call to finalise quote yesterday, no written quote, he never called back.
(P=Plumber)
Where do we go from here? Quote 11? Has any body had trouble like this? I thought it was 3 quotes and choose from there!
Cheers.
P.s. It's getting bloody cold.

Not had the same with plumbers (I used a friends relative to redo my central heating) but I have had this problem with several workmen to the point I nearly wrote a thread like yours! I've had no call backs, people not turning up, people not getting back with quotes. Either the housing market is well and truly has improved or these people aren't interested in work.
Good luck!0 -
I pretty much use the same people all the time, sometimes thay may cost a bit more but I know there work, they know how I like things done!0

I don't understand why you want to change the location of the boiler, it will be a lot cheaper to just have it replaced with a new up-to-date version of the same model.0 -

We paid 3K for our new Worcester greenstar combi (I think its a 25i) boiler last month. Had wireless controller, magnetic filter and full system flush, no rads or trvs. Problem with plumbers at the moment is they are in high demand due to the amount of people putting their heating on for the first time this autumn and having problems. Hope you find someone to do it soon:)0

Hi, we were told we have to move to it because it's an old floorstanding one, very thin and not enough space for combi and the flue going out wouldn't meet regs without a large plume kit.
Wish I'd done plumbing after school now!0 -

I was thinking something like that might be our next step. Any preferences for ratedpeople or mybuilder?0 -
I got my plumber from the local estate agents. They have plumbers who do work on the rental properties. I just had a new Baxi boiler fitted by him last week.
I have used him several times now over the last few years and although he is not the cheapest he usually puts my work first as he knows he won't have to wait while the estate agents get the money from the landlords to give it to him. I pay him as soon as the job is done.Life is not the way it’s supposed to be. It’s the way it is. The way you cope with it is what makes the difference.0 -

Yea wish we'd pursued things earlier, we started getting quotes in the summer but out it off after the first 6. Takes ages as have to wait for them to come round, then wait again for the quote. If we get one at all. I can see a trip to Argos coming up for some plug in jobbies for this winter.0 -
we managed for the last 5 years with oil filled plug in radiators and in all honesty they worked really well and didn't take up too much electricity (they are thermostat controlled). The reason we got the boiler sorted (it did give hot water just no heating) was because we are in the process of selling. otherwise we would have probably carried on with the plug in ones.0
