Virgin Media Price Increases From Feb 2014

Just rang them to see what they could offer. Took about 20-25 minutes via India and Scotland (?) and I have ony saved a little but I guess it's better than nothing.
I had the basic phone deal (free wknd calls only) with TV M (freeview) and 20mb Broadband which is £32.14 before the price rise.
I now have the same TV and phone but 30mb B/band for £27.64 until Feb (refunding Nov so I pay this) then £30.14
So I save about £4.50 pcm but have faster bb - which I didn't need but at least I am paying a little less.
She said their loyalty diso!!!! deals are mostly around faster speeds and probably higher packages - more room for negotiation! But probably worth ringing to ask them what they can do if you aren't happy.
She reckoned TalkTalk speeds are only about 2-4 Mb which of course she would though I did wonder about that - everyone is obviously quoting it at them!0 -
Virgin Media Cable are the only mainstream supplier able to offer you broadband etc without a phone .
See: http://store.virginmedia.com/broadband/compare-broadband/index.html click on Broadband.
But it does not save you much money, landline free deals are just about cheaper overall, but people going without a landline certainly aren't saving £15 a month.

How Virgin Media will lose customers:
VM wants £33.28 off me from 1-2-2014 for Broadband and basic phone service. CPI rise 2013-4 is only 2.7% but their prices are rising by 6.7%. Phone calls will be 10.6ppm versus 8ppm Asda mobile, or often free via VOIPStunt if occasional deposits are made.
Landline is not really necessary at today's cheaper-than-mobile rates. Plus Net is only £20.49 for landline and Internet at slower speeds than cable. Can't opt-out of the landline. Hardly worth paying £13 a month more to VM for 20Mbps versus 3.5Mbps, as a light user. Bonus: also get free evening calls instead of weekend only with VM. Plus Net's fibre-optic package is £30: still £3 less than VM.0 -
I've just emailed a complaint to Virgin Media because they made the mistake of sending me that letter informing me of the 2nd rise in 6 months the same day I have had no broadband for 2 days!!, here is my complaint, probably a bit more emotive than it should be but I have had 2 days of total grief:
"I wish to make a formal complaint as I am very unhappy with the service I have received on my Virgin media broadband. I have had several issues with outages and as I work from home for an IT company, this has affected me greatly, resulting in losing days salary at a time or having to take days holidays as I am unable to work. There were several issues in October which resulted in me receiving a super hub, upgrade to 30mb broadband and a £2 monthly discount. Firstly the hub did not work and it was another 2 days before an engineer could replace it, at which point I found out the hub was a refurb - and my 'upgrade' to 30mb broadband was what I was entitled to anyway that the superhub would run at a minimum. I was affected again by the outage that began in the early hours of 04 Dec started as a general outage, several calls later, it was my hub at which point an engineer was going to come out, only for me to find out later that there was another national outage. I couldnt go into work the next day as I thought an engineer was still coming as I had not received the phone call to tell it was cancelled (which customer service said I would get in plenty of time). The service was back up and running around lunchtime today and it was over 2 hours later that I got an automated voice message that service had been resumed and that the engineer had been cancelled! this was halfway into the slot time I was given that the engineer was coming. So this resulted in me losing another 2 days of work, one of which was because I stayed at home expecting an engineer. The to top it off, I get a letter today from Virgin Media saying that as from Feb 14 you are putting up my bill by another £2!! How can you do this when it was only a matter of a few weeks ago you gave me a discount of £2 off my monthly bill on a new contract! this is in addition to putting up my bill by £2.50 in October - which equates to a 20% rise in 6 months which is unfathomable, especially for a service that is failing to be effectively delivered. I would like to receive a response as I am seriously considering leaving Virgin Media as I am very unhappy and cannot rely on your broadband for my job.":heart2: Cookiepops :heart2:0 -
