I wish it was a simple case of just 'grinning and bearing it' but sadly it's a very toxic environment (emotional, mental and financial abuse)

It's okay saying he's 20 (22 actually) he should pay his own way but how many students actually can do that? I certainly couldn't and I, like him, worked up until Christmas of my third year.
He does actually live away from home in term time this was more about summer/holidays etc. It's sadly yet another example if manipulation I have seen.

I have spoken to him and he is going to try and make civil conversation, whilst committing himself to nothing, to try to get it sorted student finance wise. He is fine with text/fb message contact but cannot face phone or face to face. Without going into details I don't blame him and I am a very 'family is important and you only get one' type of person, but then again as someone mentioned above my own parents would do anything to help me even if we had disagreements.

Just wanted to check to see if there was any way around it but it seems not. Hopefully it will get sorted.

If it's just a case of living at home for this Christmas and Easter 2014 then I'd be even more in favour of teeth gritting, however toxic the environment might be - it's such a short time, however you look at it.

    Hope he sorts it.

The fact remains that he can't change the way his parents are acting and, from the information given, it sounds unlikely that he would be able to claim estrangement.

Bowing to his parents' wishes for 6 months, however unreasonable these may be, would seem to be the pragmatic solution which would see him graduating in 6 months' time and free to do what he wants for the rest of his life.

    Please.

I would rather get in to debt than give in to bullying....bullying parents suck and one is best rid...It'll be worth every penny in the long run...
