Magic data charges (Orange/EE)

Options
Hello everyone

Happy to find such a complex forum!

I need some advice and also this may serve as a warning to some.

I have an Orange contract with 500 mb data allowance. I am quite a responsible person so I always check my usage so I don't incur any extra cost but two weeks ago in just two days Thursday and Friday I have managed to get extra data charges of 450 pounds !

Thursday morning I checked my bundles and I had 350 MB left, I cheked in the afternoon and I also checked Friday morning when it said the same thing 350 MB.

At about 17:00 Friday my bundles showed 0 MB and an extra cost 430 and I was just shocked ! It means that I've used 350 Mb and on top of that 430 pounds ?!?!?

I have only used the internet for browsing and saw about 4 - 5 videos on Youtube (witch I didn't realize use a lot of data) .

I called Orange and they've said that until the bill is generated they cannot do anything but if I renew my contract they will offer me an option to notify me when I reach the data limit. That sounded like it's ok you were stealing 430 prounds from you but if you renew we won't do it again !

I called Citizens Advice and they suggested I use the normal complain procedure and if that doesn't get me anywhere to try CISAS regulating authority for communications providers.

I find just unbelievable that after checking my bundles 3 times a day I managed to get this huge cost... I wonder what would have happened if I didn't check and used the internet for a week ?

How do they expect a person earning an average wage to pay a 500 / 1000 / 2000 pounds bill ?

What are your thoughts on this ?

Ask them to apply retrospectively the bundle that would be most appropriate for this usage. If they can apply a bundle before the usage takes place, they can equally apply it after the usage takes place. It would be unreasonable for them to refuse to do this, and they often do so.

Although, if you have used the data (not realising YouTube uses lots of data ) remember they aren't obliged to. So it would be more effective to be professional and polite.

I also would avoid irrelevancy, just stick to what happened to you.

Data billing errors are not uncommon at Orange. Complain and demand a breakdown of data charges for that particular day.

Do you have a data counter in your phone?
