Broken doll - no receipt - any hope?

Really appreciate all the advice today. I asked in my local Argos store and they say to go back to the store where we bought the doll as they can check till transactions to help with proof of purchase. I'm going to head there after school today or tomorrow and see if we can sort this out. I know they don't have a replacement in stock but I have reserved one in yet another store (that's that one hour journey) but maybe, just maybe, this will all work out well. Thanks again.0

I know people are shouting fraud at you using the new receipt, but considering it's pretty much exactly what you'd be doing if you hadn't thrown the original receipt out, it's not *that* bad... In fact I have suggested customers do the same at shops that I have worked in, as the company is no worse off, it's just a way around the admin side of things.
I'd say something entirely different if you had bought the toy from say Toys R Us or another company and you were trying to return to Argos, but considering that isn't what you are proposing, I think it's a decent enough back up plan.0 -

I agree there is an act of deception involved, however this only applies to the issue of providing proof of purchase, not to the return itself.
However you try to justify it or word of course it is Fraud!!0 -
What thumbremote said works well
if you decide you dont want the doll at all then you can buy another from argos and keep the little receipt that is taped to the side of the box. Then take the new one back with the product number on the piece of paper taped to the side of the box and take the broken one back with the receipt as with a receipt you dont need the packaging.
Probably fraud but if you have to, why not?
Then lets not sugar coat it by making it sound like something its not.0 -

I bought 15 items from 3 different argos stores at weekend, they all used the ticket system.0 -
I went back to the store where we bought the doll after school yesterday and explained the full situation. I'd spoken to the same lady in the morning to try to find a replacement and she had helped me make a reservation for another doll in another store. (I hadn't explained about the broken doll then as I thought there was no hope but you guys gave me lots of advice - thanks.)
Anyway, we took the broken doll with no packaging and no receipt and explained when we had bought the doll, from which till and the approx time. We also showed how the doll broke (leg snapped while taking off the shoe!)
Argos Customer Services were great and gave us a credit for the doll and I have a reservation to collect a replacement later today. I was really impressed how helpful they were and we will definitely hold onto receipts for toys much longer now.
Thanks again!0 -

Well done to you AND Argos - and a much better lesson in life for your daughter :T:T“That old law about 'an eye for an eye' leaves everybody blind. The time is always right to do the right thing.”0 -
Glad it's all sorted now. MH dolls are pretty delicate and broken legs when removing the shoes is a common problem. If it happens again, there is a guide here on how to fix it and how to remove the shoes without damage:
