You'd have to check what type of flue liner was fitted before installing a woodburner. A standard flexible gas flue lining isn't suitable.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

    what about ebay/ gumtree?

You said in post 3 that you had found 'some new ones' there-I assumed you were talking about the coals...
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • Hi it's a eclipse slimline

    Gas type: G20
    Inlet press: 20m bar
    Heat input: 4.7kw

    Serial no, 0201228105

I guess I cannot get new coals but how do I know what type of fire to get as a replacement?

I measured the fire including trim and it's 47x60x15cmd.

I found a new fire on gumtree:

    http://www.gumtree.com/p/for-sale/gas-fire/1038284646

But it is 636 x 518 x 235mm d so can I make my gap larger prettier to find a fire the same size?

I have been high efficiency ones for £300 but are they worth the extra cost?!

That fire won't fit. It is a deep class 1 fire, made for houses which have a deep chimney breast, chimney stack and chimney pots.

Your fire says it is a slimline model, so to me, that would mean that you have a precast or prefabricated flue.

There are plenty of fires out there which would be suitable. I wouldn't really buy one from Gumtree, you don't know what they have done with it, even if it says brand new boxed etc.

Go into your local independent gas fire showroom, explain your situation, they can get lots of different fires that will suit your needs.

I wouldn't bother with trying to get one on the internet, it sounds like you need help with your choice and this won't come from someone sitting infront of a telephone and pc.
